Catholic Men Urged to Champion Tree Planting

Catholic men in the Diocese of Zomba have been urged to take a leading role in tree planting both in Catholic institutions and in their homes as part of promoting environmental conservation.

The call was made by Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, during a tree-planting exercise held at St. Lawrence Parish, Kwipululu in the Diocese.

Bishop Chaima encouraged members of the association to lead their families in faith, actively serve the Church and support Church programmes, including tree planting initiatives. He also advised the men to share their personal challenges with trusted individuals and to avoid making harmful decisions such as taking their own lives.

The Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Parish and Dean of Thondwe Deanery, Fr. Gift Phiri, thanked the Bishop for leading by example in promoting environmental conservation. He assured him that the parish would take good care of the planted trees until they are fully grow.

Later, members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) visited the Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Allan Chamgwera, at his residence in Thondwe. They were accompanied by some of the priests serving in the Diocese, including the Vicar General, Fr. Bernard Chipole.

The visit provided an opportunity for the women to interact with Bishop Chamgwera and express their appreciation for his dedicated service to the Church and the country at large.
