Sisters of the Congregation of the Holy Innocents, who serve at Holy Trinity Parish (Matawale) in the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, commemorated the Feast of the Holy Innocents with a renewed call for strong faith, discipline among young people and continued dedication to service in the Church.

The Feast of the Holy Innocents is a significant observance in the Catholic Church, commemorating the young children who were killed by King Herod in his attempt to eliminate the infant Jesus. It serves as a reminder of the innocence of children and the need to protect and nurture their spiritual and moral development.

The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which was presided over by Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba and was attended by priests, religious sisters, parents, children and members of the parish community.

In his homily, Bishop Chaima expressed gratitude to the Sisters of the Holy Innocents for their devoted service, particularly in caring for and guiding children within the parish. He encouraged them to continue strengthening their pastoral mission and assured them of the Diocese’s ongoing support in their work.

Turning to the young people who attended the celebration, Bishop Chaima urged them to remain unwavering in their faith, prioritise their education and uphold good moral behaviour.

The celebration was marked by moments of prayer, reflection and fellowship, as the parish community came together to honour the Feast of the Holy Innocents and reaffirm their commitment to nurturing children within the Church.
