Bishop of Zomba Diocese, Right Reverend Alfred
Mateyu Chaima, was speaking at Zomba Cathedral on Thursday, September 14, 2023
at the opening Mass for the organisation’s four-day Annual General Meeting
(AGM).
Bishop Chaima commended the women for being result-oriented as evidenced by
their investment spirit which he described it as a catalyst for attaining
self-reliance.
The Local Ordinary said that women contribute significantly to the life of the
church, hence the need for the Diocese to support their organisation so that
they can achieve their goals.
In her speech, the chairperson of Catholic Women Organisation in Zomba Diocese,
Mrs. Christina Lakiyoni, said the women are expected to discuss several issues
including business and investment plans, on top of general spiritual issues.
She added that currently they have a maize mill and they are also constructing
a girls’ hostel which will be generating income for the organization’s
self-reliant drive.

Besides holding the Annual General Meeting, the women are also celebrating 50 years of CWO existence, also known as Golden Jubilee, as they gather at St. Peters Major Seminary, venue for this year’s AGM.
