Youths Called to Put God First and Work Hard in School

Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba has urged young people to cultivate a strong prayer life and remain committed to their studies.

Bishop Chaima made the remarks on Sunday at Pirimiti Parish during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Vocations Sunday.

He said that every young person's future becomes brighter when they put God first and work hard in school to become responsible and productive citizens. The Bishop also encouraged the youth to use social media platforms such as Facebook responsibly, noting that some online activities contribute to negative behaviours among young people.

Bishop Chaima further advised the youth to communicate openly with their parents whenever they face challenges instead of resorting to harmful actions such as taking their own lives.

The event brought together many young people from all twenty parishes of the Diocese of Zomba. During the gathering, participants had an opportunity to listen to presentations from various groups explaining the different vocations within the Catholic Church, including the priesthood, brotherhood, religious sisterhood, marriage, and other forms of service.

The presentations were intended to help the young people discern and choose the vocation to which God may be calling them.
