More than 200 people whose homes were destroyed by heavy rains earlier this year in the Makwangwala area under Namitembo Parish, have expressed gratitude to the Catholic Diocese of Zomba for the relief assistance they have received, saying it will help ease the hardships they have been facing.

The beneficiaries made the remarks as Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba distributed maize flour and blankets to affected families during a ceremony held at Namitembo Parish.

Speaking after presenting the relief items, Bishop Chaima encouraged the recipients to make good use of the assistance and reminded them of the importance of supporting one another, especially during times of hardship, even when they have limited resources.

“The Church’s mission is not only about spiritual nourishment but also about responding to the challenges affecting people’s daily lives. Through acts of compassion, we demonstrate God’s love to those in need,” added Bishop Chaima.

The Bishop also urged the beneficiaries to keep in their prayers the generous donors from abroad whose continued support enables the Diocese to assist people affected by various challenges.

He noted that acts of solidarity and compassion reflect the Church's mission of caring for those most in need and thanked the benefactors for their commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities.

More than 200 people received maize flour and blankets during the distribution exercise, which was held at Namitembo Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Zomba.
