Daughters of Wisdom Urged to Remain Practical in their Mission

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, has urged the Daughters of Wisdom to be practical in their missionary service, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who, after accepting the will of God, visited Elizabeth and accompanied Jesus Christ through thick and thin.

Bishop Chaima made the remarks during a Eucharistic Celebration at St. Mary’s Catholic Girls Secondary School grounds in Zomba Diocese, where Sister Anne Solomon and Sister Catherine Kaluwa made their perpetual vows in the Congregation, while Sister Dorothy Chimwala and Sister Agnes Mdzinga celebrated their silver jubilee.

In his homily, the Prelate challenged the congregation to embrace the challenges of life for the sake of doing the will of God, just as St. Louis de Montfort did when founding the Congregations of the Daughters of Wisdom and the Montfort Fathers.

Quoting from his letter addressed to Marie Louis of Jesus Christ, Bishop Chaima stressed that if one cannot take risks for God, one cannot do great things for God. He also urged Christians to be proud of their faith and continue serving others despite the challenges they may encounter.

The Bishop further stressed that, as people who have been called by God, Christians should not allow a spirit of undermining the wisdom of God to linger by attributing every success solely to human effort. He said all things happen because God’s hand is upon humanity through His profound love and mercy, and therefore Christians should always praise God, just as the Blessed Virgin Mary did in her song, β€œMy soul glorifies the Lord.”

The Local Ordinary also urged the congregation to learn from the wisdom of God that guided the early missionaries who planted the faith in Malawi. He noted that the Catholic Church in Malawi is currently celebrating its Quasquicentennial Jubilee, marking 125 years of uninterrupted presence of faith and evangelisation in the country.

In her remarks, the Provincial Superior of the Daughters of Wisdom Malawi Province, Sister Mary Chimalizeni, thanked the Bishop for his steadfast commitment and urged the sisters to be exemplary and fulfil the will of God in their service to the Church and the world.

Sister Chimalizeni also appointed Sister Anne Solomon and Sister Catherine Kaluwa to the Mayaka Community in Zomba Diocese, while Sister Agnes Mdzinga and Sister Dorothy Chimwala were appointed to the Lunzu and Limbe Communities in the Archdiocese of Blantyre.

The Provincial Superior further announced that Sister Anne Solomon will pursue further studies in Rome, Italy, from October 2026.

The Daughters of Wisdom Malawi Province has 62 Sisters drawn mainly from Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique and Gabon. They currently serve in three Dioceses of Malawi, namely the Zomba and Mangochi Dioceses and the Archdiocese of Blantyre.

Their charism includes the education of children and youth, healthcare services, administration and pastoral ministry.
